Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information soundboard.gg collects, what it is used for, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. We have tried to describe exactly what the site does rather than what a site like this might do.

1. Information we collect

Account information (only if you log in)

Logging in uses Discord. We request only Discord's identify scope, which gives us your Discord user ID, username and avatar. We do not receive your email address, your servers, your messages or your friends list. We store the ID, username, avatar, the time you first and last logged in, and counters for how many custom icons you have uploaded. Your Discord ID is also used as your account identifier.

Content you upload

Sounds and custom icons you upload are stored and shown publicly, together with your Discord username and avatar as the uploader. Sounds are trimmed and converted to MP3 in your browser before upload; the original file never leaves your device.

Usage counters

Each sound has a public play count and download count. These are totals per sound, not records of which person played what. When you play or download a sound, your browser sends a request to our server, which uses your IP address for a short time in memory to limit abuse (so one visitor cannot inflate a count). The IP address is not written to any database or log by this feature.

Technical information

Like any website, our hosting provider (Vercel) receives standard request data such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the referring page in order to serve the site, keep it secure and diagnose problems. Vercel retains request logs briefly.

Analytics

We use two analytics tools, which work differently:

  • Vercel Web Analytics is always on. It records page views, the page path, the referrer, your country or region (derived from IP), and your browser, device type and operating system. It does not use cookies and does not store your IP address. Visitors are counted using a hash of request details that changes every day, so you cannot be tracked across days or across other websites.
  • Google Analytics 4 only runs if you click “Accept All” on the cookie banner. It records page views and events such as plays, downloads and logins, sets cookies to recognise your browser across visits, and is subject to Google's privacy policy.

Advertising

The site may show advertisements served by Google AdSense and Ezoic. Personalised advertising, and the cookies that support it, are only enabled after you click “Accept All”. If you reject cookies, these providers may still show non-personalised ads based on the page content and general location.

Information stored in your browser

We store your cookie choice and your volume setting in your browser's local storage, and Firebase Authentication keeps your login session in browser storage. These stay on your device and are not sent to analytics providers.

2. How we use information

  • To run the service: logging you in, storing and serving sounds, showing who uploaded them.
  • To show popular sounds, using the public play and download counts.
  • To understand which pages and features are used, so we can improve the site.
  • To prevent abuse, such as inflated counters or spam uploads.
  • To fund the site through advertising.

3. Who we share information with

We do not sell personal information. Information is processed by these providers on our behalf:

  • Google Firebase / Google Cloud: authentication, database and file storage.
  • Vercel: hosting and cookieless web analytics.
  • Discord: login. Discord's own privacy policy applies to the login step.
  • Google Analytics: analytics, only with your consent.
  • Google AdSense and Ezoic: advertising.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of users and the service. Uploaded sounds, icons and uploader names are public by design.

4. Where data is stored and for how long

Data is stored on Google Cloud and Vercel infrastructure in the United States. Account information is kept until you ask us to delete it. Uploaded content is kept until you delete it from “My Uploads” or we remove it. Analytics data is retained according to each provider's policy; Vercel Web Analytics data is aggregated and not linked to you.

5. Your choices and rights

  • Cookies and tracking: use the cookie banner, or change your choice at any time from the Cookie Policy page. Rejecting cookies turns off Google Analytics and personalised ads; Vercel's cookieless analytics still counts the visit.
  • Your content: you can edit or delete your uploads from “My Uploads” at any time.
  • Your account: email us to access, export or delete the information we hold about you. We will also remove your uploads if you ask.
  • Discord: you can revoke soundboard.gg's access in Discord under User Settings → Authorized Apps.

Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal information. Contact us to exercise them.

6. Children

soundboard.gg is not intended for children under 13, and Discord does not permit users under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have, please contact us and we will delete it.

7. Changes to this policy

When we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced on the site.
